Jewels, Gems & Gunpowder

I would love to hear from you! Sharing Saturday with you.

Jewel: What does it mean to heal from our tragedy? What does healing look, feel and sound like?

I can tell you what it is not. It is not a condition of full forgetfulness of the events of your past. It is not the absence of the scars we carry from the abuse. It is not a place that you arrive at – no nirvana.

As I travel on through the process, I indeed find more peace and the resolve to carry on no matter what the circumstance. That’s healing!

I can speedily get through most triggers now. However, when a true flashback comes dashing through my mind, it takes me more than a few minutes to hash it out, feel its sting and find somewhere to incorporate into my being. That’s healing!

I ain’t getting out of my past through some denial stage of leaving it all behind. It’s a part of my history. It made me who I am. That’s just the truth of what healing looks like.

Gem: There are many good distractions in life on the road through the redemptive process of healing. Cooking is a beautiful one for me, as is visiting with my friends. My children and grandchild are my finest distraction from pain I have ever known.

My next distraction: I’m getting back into golf.

Metaphorical Gunpowder: God sees me. He doesn’t hide His view from my pain, my children’s pain or my grandchildren’s pain. He is in the thick of it with us, even when we can’t see Him, feel Him or hear Him. He walks beside us in all ways.

You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.

Psalms 56:8

Leave your jewel, a gem or something you kept yourself free from with metaphorical gunpowder. Remember, not one tear that you have ever shed has been lost.

Happy Saturday!
