Mirror Mirror ~ What are Emotions For?

Introspection — what better way to start a week.

Question: What are emotions for?

Pain, agony, grief, suffering, joy, happiness — emotions run the gambit of life. Gambit means “an action, or opening remark, typically one entailing a degree of risk, that is calculated to gain an advantage.”

Emotions are tactical. They allow us to feel, take risk and calculate.

Growing up I didn’t cry much. I wouldn’t have survived my past if I allowed emotions full reign. So, I bundled them up and put them away. When I became a mother, I felt love for possibly the first time but my emotions had already been captured.

It was the love for my children that made me take a deep dive into discovery — healing. I had to find a way to give them more, so I cried out to God.

Finally, my emotions began to return to me through much work uncovering why I hid them in the first place. They’ve been back with me for years now.

Now, I’m learning when to activate them and when not to.
